As we enter the month of Global Entrepreneurship Week and celebrate the fantastic George Brown College entrepreneur community, we are so proud to this month spotlight Philip Correya, Co-Founder & CEO of Pumpkin Kart, an incredible tech start-up dedicated to ethnic food.  As a proud immigrant to Canada, Philip fell in love with his adopted country but like so many newcomers he missed the cuisines of his birth country. Philip created Pumpkin Kart to help people continue to share great food from their cultural backgrounds.

About Philip Vadley Edward Correya

Philip is a creative think-tank and a visionary leader with more than 8 years of experience in the Tech and Food Industry. He is a people person who brings expertise in sales, brand collaborations, team building, and fundraising. He has trained more than 1500+ students across South India on Windows App Development and has judged hackathons. He wants to inspire and help more international students, immigrants, and people of colour to pursue entrepreneurship.

Academic Background

Philip completed a B.Tech in IT from Anna University, India. Then joined George Brown College for a postgraduate Diploma in Analytics for Business Decision Making. Then moved on to complete his postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from St. Lawrence College, Kingston.

What made you want to become an entrepreneur?

I always want to be the best at what I do, so when I joined Computer Science Engineering I knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and lead a tech company after I graduate.

Why did you create your business?

As immigrants ourselves, we love our adopted country but long for cuisines from our motherland. Food is one of the strongest bonds we have within our culture, and away from home, we are often unable to easily access it. This struggle is something many immigrants are all too familiar with.

We are building a super app for immigrants!

What successes have you enjoyed so far with building your company?

For us, success is a journey. A few milestones achieved so far are as follows:
25K+ users on our platform with $2Million+ in revenue
Raised our Pre-Seed funding from Tangentia Ventures.
Participated in 3 leading Accelerator Programs
Selected to Pitch at Collision Conference
Shortlisted for Interviews at Y Combinator
Partnered with Metrolinx and Presto

What is one piece of advice you would give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

“Be Resilient. Be ready to face rejections” – Philip Vadley Edward Correya
